The Insider Threat

The insider threat is a complicated and an open problem. Insider risk can take the form of a disgruntled employee, a malicious outsider masquerading as an insider, a dishonest outsourcing partner employee, or an honest employee who makes a data access error or is simply unaware of company data governance or security policy. Insiders can also be privileged users who have behind the scenes access to databases and other data systems. The threats these insiders pose can take many forms including data theft for profit, data breach or system sabotage for revenge, or non-compliant access of regulated data. In all of these cases, the problem is essentially the same—finding a way to protect critical data assets while providing easy access for the people who need it when they need it.

Access and other traditional security controls are critically important, but it has become clear, in light of recent data incidents, that traditional security technologies alone will not keep data safe. What is missing is the ability to “see” what is actually going on with data as it is being accessed from databases and other data repositories. And this blind spot in data activity is complicated by the fact that data is stored all over the place and most organizations don’t really know where critical data is.

Mantra Insider Threat Protection

Mantra database monitoring and protection provides visibility into what users are doing with data. A real-time window into data location, database location and changes, and user access behavior, Mantra detects and takes action in response to misuse of sensitive data as it is happening. Patent-pending Behavioral Fingerprinting® technology enables Mantra to provide highly accurate anomaly detection using sophisticated analytics that assess historical access behavior and data misuse markers against security and compliance policies. And Mantra’s local auditing capabilities detect data misuse and database changes by even the most privileged users.

Mantra is the most intelligent and easiest to use database monitoring solution on the market today. Mantra deploys quickly in even the most complicated data environments and is up, running, and productive within hours of deployment. Mantra’s discovery capabilities are best in class, allowing enterprises to locate critical data, see and assess how data is being used by insiders, and automatically create security policies that address the enterprise’s unique data security and insider threat risk.

Tizor’s customers use Mantra to address the insider threat including privileged user monitoring. Tizor customers chose Manta over other DAM solutions because it mitigated the insider threat at a lower cost of total ownership, scaled to the largest data centers and was the easiest to use and manage.
